CAUSES WE SERVE • VISION
Vision
Protecting sight and supporting the blind and visually impaired — the cause Lions have championed for a century.
SINCE 1925
A Century of Sight
Vision is not one of our causes — it is the cause that defined Lions.
1925
The Challenge
Helen Keller addressed the Lions convention and challenged Lions to champion the cause of the blind. Lions accepted — and never looked back.
1990
SightFirst
Lions launched the global SightFirst program, funding cataract surgeries, river-blindness treatment and eye hospitals across the world.
Today
Global Leaders
Lions are among the most trusted names in vision service worldwide — screening, surgeries, spectacles and research.
Here
Kilpennathur
Our club carries the same legacy locally: annual eye camps, school screening and cataract referrals.
WHY IT MATTERS
Sight Is Independence
Vision has been at the heart of Lions service since 1925, when Helen Keller challenged Lions to become champions for the blind. Today, hundreds of millions of people live with vision impairment, and most of it could be prevented or treated with timely care.
In rural communities like ours, a simple pair of spectacles or a cataract surgery can return a person’s independence, education and livelihood. That is why vision remains our flagship cause in Kilpennathur.
